As the car (A6 saloon) is new I did not want to invalidate my warranty by permanently wiring in an after market dash cam. So for me well worth it. I suppose it depends on if your car is out of manufacture warranty or not ...

You plug the mirror power line into the one port and the cam into the other. The plugs are configured and marked so it is impossible to make a mistake. It is essentially a Y splitter.

I contacted support, and they gave me a firmware to try and instructions on how to upgrade the dashcam. No issues after that point. As a note, the support was quick but very informal.
